A little bit about me
SARAH BARTON
PHOTOGRAPHER
Hi! I’m Sarah, a Scottish elopement photographer, I live near Glasgow where I grew up, with my husband Mike and our three kids Lewis, Niamh & Una and our dog Ivar - it’s a crazy household as you can imagine!
Before becoming an elopement photographer, I was a biomedical scientist, which my methodical mind enjoyed but it didn’t allow for the creativity I craved! Photography at the time was a much loved hobby and I was spending a lot my free time in the Highlands taking photos of my children exploring the incredible landscapes on both digital and 35mm film cameras - they’ll thank me when they’re older!
My journey as an elopement photographer really started after Mike and I eloped, in secrecy, with Lewis & Niamh (you can read more about that here). Eloping wasn’t a new concept to me, my parents eloped to Gretna Green on their motorbikes in 1990, then headed to the Isle of Skye on their honeymoon, so my view on what a wedding ‘should be’ has always been less than traditional!
I came away from our elopement completely inspired and with the firm belief that everyone should have the day of their dreams, that is meaningful and completely them with beautifully captured photographs to cherish.
My Approach
to storytelling
Your elopement day is made up of so many moments, from the anticipation while getting ready, to the excitement of the first look, the emotions of saying your vows, and the elation of ‘we did it!’.
I know it’s the little details that make your day so special, the quiet moments as well as the big ones, and they’re all worth capturing so that when you look back at your photographs it all comes flooding back.
Almost everyone (myself included) will say they don’t like having their photograph taken, most people initially feel self-conscious or awkward, and so my approach is unobtrusive allowing me to capture honest and real moments, while creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Some of the best compliments I’ve had from couples is how I made them feel on their day, to help them feel at ease, because beautiful photographs come from beautifully real moments.
I take inspiration from the wild & dramatic landscapes of Scotland, light and how it changes everything, but above all, I’m inspired by the love stories I capture and how each one is unique.
Beautiful photographs come from beautifully real & honest moments.
